The LORIOT **Network Insight Platform (NIP)** is a real-time monitoring and analysis tool integrated directly into the LORIOT [Network Management System (NMS)](https://docs.loriot.io/space/NMS), providing operators with deep visibility into network health and activity.

The NIP supports both real-time and historical searches over LoRaWAN network events, as well as several data exploration and visual representation options, allowing users to gain deeper insights into the performance of their LoRaWAN network.

Based on the Elastic Stack, it provides a set of out-of-the-box dashboards and visualizations that help users analyze the data produced by one or more LORIOT NMS servers to collect insights.


**Purpose and Motivation**

The primary objective of the NIP is to turn LoRaWAN network data into actionable insights. By leveraging the platform, operators can:

- **Mitigate Operational Risk**: Detect issues early to prevent service disruptions.
- **Resolve Issues Faster**: Use granular diagnostics to troubleshoot connectivity and performance bottlenecks.
- **Maintain Service Quality**: Tune network performance and maintain stable service levels through centralized monitoring.
- **Proactive Management**: Shift from reactive troubleshooting to a proactive stance using automated alerting engines.


**Components and Integration**

The Network Insight Platform is built upon the **Elastic Stack**, utilizing industry-standard tools for high-performance data analysis and visualization to provide actionable intelligence.

The NIP runs in parallel to the LORIOT NMS and doesn’t interfere at any point with any of the NMS processes. Its architecture integrates seamlessly with the LORIOT NMS through the following data pipeline:

- **Data Ingestion**: Event logs, capturing all IoT network activity, are collected in real time from the LORIOT NMS via Filebeat.
- **Processing**: Logstash acts as the data processing engine that receives data from Filebeat and enriches it to obtain the expected structured format suitable for analysis.
- **Visualization & Analysis**: Processed data is stored within the NIP, which is hosted on Elastic Cloud. The platform leverages Elasticsearch as its high-performance search and analytics engine, while Kibana provides the interface for users to interact with the data through the NIP out-of-the-box dashboards and advanced analytical tools.

It’s also possible to ingest the logs and events generated by multiple LORIOT NMS servers in a single unified Network Insight Platform. This offers a powerful, centralized platform to monitor all private NMS servers in operation and provide a single data lake of all events generated.

Access to the NIP is secured via a role-based access control scheme, ensuring that customers have appropriate privileges within dedicated **NIP instances** or **Kibana Spaces** (depending on the type of [NMS deployment and NIP subscription](https://docs-loriot.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NIP/pages/979075073)).
